Dear Fellow Peace Advocates,

We’ve been working for months to put together the best regional conference we possibly can. This is such a great opportunity for us to come together reasonably close to home with our neighbors and fellow activists and create a culture of peace as we’re learning more about the pending legislation, as well as how to be effective citizen lobbyists for a U.S. Department of Peace--and, of course, to have fun!

Here are some of the elements that will be included in the conference:
  • Speakers such as Congressman John Conyers (more speakers have accepted our invitation and will be announced via an updated flyer on the web as we have schedule confirmations)
  • Lynn McMullen, National Campaign Director, conducting several trainings
  • Nuts and Bolts activism training and district best practices, including role playing and resource materials
  • Nonviolent Communication training session
  • Separate Youth Program track led by the National Youth Program Coordinator, Brandi Kohr
  • Musical guests
  • Optional Meet and Greet on Friday and optional group/State activities each day
  • Peace Train opportunity - on Amtrak - see flyer for two types of discounted travel for this conference

Please contact Karen Johnson at DoPMidwestRegion@aol.com ASAP if you are interested in a group “Peace Train” ticket (as described on the flyer). Please note that the conference rate at the Radisson expires on June 30. If rooms book up before then, we may be able to secure an additional block, so please reserve early!

Please register early and forward this email, or print the first two pages of our flyer package double-sided and distribute it, widely (and feel free to contact us if you have ideas or time availability for promotional activities). We have a capacity of 450 at the conference and we’d like to make the most of this opportunity to create and expand a culture of peace TODAY in the midwest--America’s heartland. Paraphrasing Marshall Rosenberg, author of several books about nonviolent communication, when we connect at the heart level, violence can’t happen. Let’s demonstrate to America the power of the heart of America working FOR PEACE.

Yours in peace,

DOP Midwest Regional Conference Committee

P.S. Preferred, reserved seating available to all who register before May 19, 2006!
